Sun Chemical has released its Spring 2026 Regulatory Newsletter, outlining key regulatory developments affecting the packaging, inks, and pigments industries across major global markets.

The update is part of the company’s twice-yearly effort to help customers navigate evolving compliance requirements and anticipate future regulatory changes.

“Through our regulatory newsletters, sustainable product offerings, and global support teams, we aim to help customers stay prepared for an ever-changing regulatory landscape,” states Bob Kendrick, director of corporate regulatory at Sun Chemical.

The latest edition covers developments across Europe, the UK, China, and North America, with a particular focus on food contact materials (FCMs), chemicals regulation, and packaging-related policies.

Among the key updates:

  • Amendments to Germany’s Consumer Goods Ordinance, including additions tied to the German Ink Ordinance (GIO), along with an extension of the transition period for printed food contact materials to December 31, 2026
  • A forthcoming update from the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) on dioxins and dioxin-like PCBs, proposing a significantly lower tolerable weekly intake threshold
  • A UK Food Standards Agency (FSA) consultation on a potential ban of bisphenol A (BPA) and related substances in food contact materials, aligning with recent EU actions
  • Proposed updates in China to expand and revise its list of permitted substances for food contact applications
  • A delay in the implementation of certain provisions under the EU’s Classification, Labelling and Packaging (CLP) Regulation until January 1, 2028

According to Sun Chemical, the newsletter is designed to help brand owners, converters, and suppliers better understand regulatory shifts that could impact material selection, formulation, and compliance strategies.

As regulatory scrutiny continues to intensify — particularly around food safety, chemicals, and sustainability — the company emphasized the importance of staying informed and proactive.
